Oriental Gas Company Act ,1857 Section 17

Title: Penalty if Water Be Fouled by Gas

Whenever any water shall be fouled by the Gas of the said Company, they shall forfeit to the person whose water shall be so fouled for every such offence a sum not exceeding two hundred rupees, and a further sum, not exceeding one hundred rupees, for each day during which the offence shall continue, after the expiration of twenty-four hours from the service of notice of such offence.

Title: Compensations to Officers on Home Establishment of the Company and of Board of Control Not Retained on New Establishment

It Shall be lawful for Her Majesty, by Warrant under Her Royal Sign Manual, countersigned by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, to grant to any Secretary, Officer or Servant on the Home Establishment of the Company, or on the Establishment of the said Commissioners, who in consequence of such Reduction as aforesaid by the Secretary of State or under such Order in Council is not retained on the Establishment of the Secretary of State in Council, any Compensation, either by way of a gross or annual Payment, as having regard to the Circumstances, may seem just.

Calcutta Pilots Act, 1859 Section 17

Title: Sentence if Accused Found Guilty

Year: 1859

If by such verdict the accused person is found guilty of the charge or of anyone or more of the charges preferred against him, the Judge of the Court shall sentence him to be dismissed from the said pilot service, or to have his license withdrawn, or shall award such other punishment, by loss of rank, or by change of a license from a higher to a lower grade, or suspension from employment for a specific period, as to the Judge shall appear fit. Preparation of schedule of offences and punishments. The Central Government, may prepare a schedule of offences and punishments (such punishments being of the same nature as those hereinbefore mentioned) for the guidance of the said Court; and if such schedule be prepared and the charge proved before the said Court is an offence specified in such schedule, the Judge of the said Court shall award such punishment as is prescribed for such offence in the said schedule, and no other. Acquittal. If by such verdict as aforesaid the accused person is found not guilty of the charge or charges preferred against him, the Judge shall declare him acquitted of the same.

Societies Registration Act, 1860 Section 17

Title: Registration of Societies Formed Before Act

.....present personally, or by proxy, at some general meeting convened for that purpose by the governing body. In the case of a company or society registered under this Act 43 of 1850, the directors shall be deemed to be such governing body. In the case of a society not so registered, if no such body shall have been constituted on the establishment of the society, it shall be competent for the members thereof, upon due notice, to create for itself a governing body to act for the society thenceforth. ___________________ 1. Act 43 of 1850 i.e. the Joint Stock Companies Act, 1850 stands repealed by section 219 of the Indian Companies Act, 1866 (10 of 1866), the Indian Companies Act, 1866 also stands repealed by Companies Act, 1956 (1 of 1956).
