New Delhi Municipal Council Act 1994 Section 143

Title: Procedure for Making Contracts

State: Central

Year: 1994

With respect to the making of contracts, the following provisions shall have effect, namely:-- (a) every such contract shall be made on behalf of the Council by the Chairperson; (b) no such contract, for any purpose which in accordance with any provision of this Act the Chairperson may not carry out without the approval or sanction of the Council shall be made by him until and unless such approval or sanction has been duly obtained; (c) no contract which will involve an expenditure exceeding ten lakh rupees or such higher amount as the Central Government may from time to time, fix, shall be made by the Chairperson unless the same is previously approved by the Council; and (d) every contract made by the Chairperson, involving an expenditure exceeding one lakh rupees but not exceeding ten lakh rupees or such higher amount as may be fixed under clause (c) shall be reported by him, within one month after the same has been made to the Council.

Navy Act, 1957 Section 143

Title: Accused Found Insane During Trial

State: Central

Year: 1957

(1) Where it appears in the course of the trial by court-martial of any person, charged with an offence that such person is insane, the court shall find specially the fact of his insanity and shall order such person to be kept in strict custody in such place and in such manner as the court may deem fit until the directions of the Central Government thereupon are known. (2) Every such case shall be reported by the court to the convening authority for orders of the Central Government and it shall be lawful for the Central Government to give orders for the safe custody of such person in such place and in such manner as the Central Government may deem fit. (3) Whenever on the receipt of a report from the Central Government or otherwise the convening authority considers that such person is capable of making his defence, the convening authority may take steps to convene a court-martial for the trial of such person.

Where a certain sum is bequeathed, the legacy is not specific merely because the stock, funds or securities in which it is invested are described in the will. Illustration A bequeaths to B "10,000 rupees of my funded property": "10,000 rupees of my property now invested in shares of the East Indian Railway Company": "10,000 rupees, at present secured by mortgage of Rampur factory". No one of these legacies is specific.

Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act, 1976 Section 143

Title: Power to Assess in Case of Escape from Assessment

State: Karnataka

Notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in this Act or the rules made thereunder, if for any reason any person liable to pay any of the taxes or fees leviable under this chapter has escaped assessment in any half-year or year, the Commissioner may, at any time within six years from the date on which such person should have been assessed, serve on such person a notice assessing him to the tax or fee due and demanding payment thereof within fifteen days from the date of such service; and the provisions of this Act and the rules made thereunder shall, so far as may be, apply as if the assessment was made in the half-year or year to which the tax or fee relates.

Karnataka Panchayat Raj Act, 1993 Section 143

Title: Taluk Panchayat May Require the Presence of Government Officers at Meetings

If it shall appear to a Taluk Panchayat that the attendance of any officer of the Government having jurisdiction over an area of a district or less than a district and not working under the Taluk Panchayat, is desirable at a meeting of the Taluk Panchayat, the Executive Officer shall by a letter addressed to such officer not less than fifteen days before the intended meeting, request that officer to be present at the meeting and the officer shall, unless prevented by sickness or other reasonable cause, attend the meetings: Provided that the officer on receipt of such letter may if he for any of the causes aforesaid is unable to be present thereat himself, instruct his deputy or other competent subordinate officer to represent him at the meeting.

Karnataka Police Act, 1963 Section 143

Title: Provision in Case of Absence, Sudden Illness, Etc., of Police Patel

When the Police Patel is unable to attend to his duty on account of absence from the village, sudden illness or other cause, he shall place a competent member of the Village Police in charge of his office and make an immediate report to the District Magistrate or authorised officer to whom he is subordinate. The person so placed in charge shall, until receipt of orders to the contrary, be subject to the rights and liabilities of a Police Patel under this Act.
