Title: Endangering Safety of Persons Travelling by Railway by Rash or Negligent Act or Omission

State: Central

Year: 1989

If any person in a rash and negligent manner does any act, or omits to do what he is legally bound to do, and the act or omission is likely to endanger the safety of any person travelling or being upon any railway, he shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine, or with both.

Merchant Shipping Act, 1958 Section 154

Title: Master to Pay and Deliver Property of Deceased Seamen

State: Central

Year: 1958

(1) If the master of a ship fails to comply with the provisions of this Act with respect to taking charge of the property of the deceased seaman or apprentice, or to making in the official log book the proper entries relating thereto, or to the payment or delivery of such property, he shall be accountable for such property to the shiping master as aforesaid, and shall pay and deliver the same accordingly. (2) The property may be recovered in the same Court and manner in which the wages of seamen may be recovered under this Act.

Karnataka Municipalities Act, 1964 Section 154

Title: Recovery of Rent on Land

State: Karnataka

Year: 1964

(1) Where any sum is due on account of rent from a person to the municipal council in respect of land vested in, or entrusted to the management of, the municipal council, the municipal council may apply to the Deputy Commissioner to recover any arrear of such rent as if it were an arrear of land revenue. (2) The Deputy Commissioner on being satisfied that the sum is due shall proceed to recover it as an arrear of land revenue.

Sashastra Seema Bal Act 2007 Section 154

Title: Protection for Acts of Members of the Force

State: Central

.....the member of the Force shall thereupon be discharged from liability in respect of the act so done by him, notwithstanding any defect in the jurisdiction of the authority which issued such warrant or order. (3) Notwithstanding anything contained in any other law for the time being in force, any legal proceeding (whether civil or criminal) which may lawfully be brought against any member of the Force for anything done or intended to be done under the powers conferred by, or in pursuance of any provision of this Act or the rules, shall be commenced within three months after the act complained of was committed and not otherwise, and notice in writing of such proceeding and of the cause thereof shall be given to the defendant or his superior officer at least one month before the commencement of such proceeding.

Indian Succession Act, 1925 Section 154

Title: Ademption of Specific Bequest of Right to Receive Something from Third Party

Year: 1925

Where the thing specifically bequeathed is the right to receive something of value from a third party, and the testator himself receives it, the bequest is adeemed. Illustrations (i) A bequeaths to B "the debt which C owes me": "2,000 rupees which I have in the hands of D": "the money due to me on the bond of E": "my mortgage on the Rampur factory". All these debts are extinguished in A's lifetime, some with and some without his consent. All the legacies are adeemed. (ii) A bequeaths to B his interest in certain policies of life assurance. A in his lifetime receives the amount of the policies. The legacy is adeemed.

Clerical or arithmetical mistakes in any decision or order passed by the Central Government, the Board or any officer of customs under this Act, or errors arising therein from any accidental slip or omission may, at any time, be corrected by the Central Government, the Board or such officer of customs or the successor in office of such officer, as the case may be.

Navy Act, 1957 Section 154

Title: Discharge or Removal of Prisoners

Whenever any offender is undergoing imprisonment or detention in pursuance of this Act, it shall be lawful for the Central Government or the Chief of the Naval Staff, or where an offender is undergoing imprisonment or detention by order of his commanding officer, for such commanding officer or the Central Government or the Chief of the Naval Staff, to give an order in writing in the prescribed form directing that the offender be discharged; and it shall also be lawful for the Central Government and the Chief of the Naval Staff, by order in writing in the prescribed form, to direct that any such offender, be delivered over to naval custody for the purpose of being brought before a court-martial, either as a witness or for trial or otherwise, and such offender shall accordingly, on the production of any such order, be discharged, or be delivered over to such custody.

New Delhi Municipal Council Act 1994 Section 154

Title: Public Gratuitous Water Supply

(1) The Chairperson with the approval of the Council may provide gratuitous supply of wholesome water to the public within New Delhi and may, for that purpose, erect public hydrants or other conveniences. (2) The Chairperson may with like approval close a public hydrant or other convenience when it is no longer required for the supply of wholesome water to the public.
