.....sanction of the Governor General has been obtained under sub-section (3) of section 80A of the Government of .India Act to the passing of this Act; It is hereby enacted as follows CHAPTER 1 PRELIMINARY Section 1 Short title, extent and commencement (1)This Act may be called the Bengal Municipal Act, 1932. (2) It extends to the whole of [West Bengal], except Calcutta as defined fay clause (11) of section 3 of the Calcutta Municipal Act, 1923. (3) It shall come into force on such date as the (State Government] may, by notification, appoint. (4) Notwithstanding anything contained in sub-section (2), it shall not take effect in any cantonment or part of a cantonment without the consent of the [Central Government] previously obtained. (5) Notwithstanding anything contained in sub-section (2), the provisions of this Act shall apply to the district of Darjeeling or any part thereof subject to such exceptions and modifications as the State Government may, by notification, direct. .....in this behalf under this Act or the rules made thereunder; (21) "jute-mill" means a factory as defined in, or declared to be a factory under, the Factories Act, 1948, which is engaged wholly or in part in the manufacture of jute products; (22) "manufacture", with all its grammatical variations and cognate expressions, means producing, making, extracting or processing any goods and includes printing and raising of natural resources like minerals, coal etc.; (23) "net tax", in relation to any period, means (a) in case of a registered dealer, the amount of output tax in excess of the input tax credit claimed by such registered dealer in accordance with the provisions of this Act and the rules made thereunder, (b) in case of any dealer other than a registered dealer, the amount of output tax; (24) "notification" means a notification published in the Official Gazette; (25) "occupier of a jute-mill" means the person who has ultimate control over the affairs of the jute-mill; (26) "output tax", in relation to any period, means the aggregate amount of tax payable by a dealer liable to pay tax under section 10, section 11, section 12, section 13, sub-section (3) of section 14, or.....

.....1 Short title, extent and commencement (1) This Act may be called the 1Words and fingures subs. for the words and fingures "West Bangal Panchayat Act. 1956" by W.B.Act 15 of 1959.[West Bengal Panchayat Act, 1957]. (2) It extends to the whole of West Bengal, except the areas to which the provisions of the Calcutta Municipal Act, 1951, the Bengal Municipal Act, 1932, the Cooch Behar Town Committee Act, 1903, the Cooch Behar Municipal Act, 1944, the Chandernagore Municipal Act, 1955, and the Cantonments Act, 1924, or any parts or modifications thereof apply or may hereafter be applied. (3) This section shall come into force at once; the remaining sections shall come into force on such date or dates and in such area or areas as the State Government may, by notification, appoint and different dates may be appointed for different sections and for different areas. Section 2 Definitions In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,- (a)"Adhyaksha" and "Upadhyaksha", respectively, mean Adhyaksha and Upadhyaksha of a Gram Panchayat; (b) "Anchal Panchayat" means an Anchal Panchayat constituted under this Act; (c) "building" includes a house, out-house, stable, privy, urinal,.....
