Karnataka Krishna Basin Development Authority Act, 1992 Chapter 3

Title: Powers and Functions of the Authority

.....made available by the Authority; (vii) to compound or compromise any claim or demand arising out of any contract entered into by it under this Act or any action or suit instituted by or against it for such money or other compensation as it shall deem sufficient. Section 9 - Rates for supply of water for irrigation, industrial and domestic purposes The Authority shall have the power to levy and collect water charges for supply of water for irrigation, industrial, and domestic purposes, at such rates as specified by regulations under this Act and shall also have the power to fix the minimum quantity of water which shall be made available for such purposes. Section 10 - Supply of water where supply has been stopped or reduced If, with a view to operating its schemes, the Authority has stopped or reduced the supply of water to any person for agricultural, industrial or domestic purposes which such person was prior to such stoppage or reduction, enjoying by virtue of any prescriptive right, the Authority shall arrange such supply of water on the same terms as before. Kannada University Act, 1991 Chapter 2

.....not otherwise members of the Governing Council referred to in item (g); and (b) members referred to in clauses (a) to (d) of sub-section (1) of section 22. Section 9 - Inspection (1) The Chancellor shall have the right to cause an inspection or inquiry to be made, by such person or persons as he may direct, of the University, its buildings, University libraries, museums and equipments, and of any institutions maintained or recognised by the University and also of the research, teaching and other work conducted or done by the University, and to cause an inquiry to be made in respect of any matter connected with the University. The Chancellor shall in every case give notice to the University of his intention to cause such inspection or inquiry to be made and the University shall be entitled to be represented thereat. (2) The Chancellor shall communicate to the Executive Council his views with reference to the results of such inspection or inquiry and may after ascertaining the opinion of the Executive Council thereon advice the University upon the action to be taken and fix a time limit for taking such action. Karnataka Irrigation Act, 1965 Chapter V

Title: Award of Compensation

.....of one year from the time when the damage complained of commenced, provided that the Deputy Commissioner on sufficient cause shown to his satisfaction by the claimant for not making the claim within such period, may condone the delay, and entertain the claim. Section 35 - Compensation for damage caused by entry on land, etc (1) In every case of entry upon any land or building or the utilisation of materials under sections 5, 6, 7 and 8, the Irrigation Officer or the person making the entry shall ascertain and record the extent of the damage, if any, caused by the entry, or in the execution of any work, to any crop, tree, building or other property and the value of the materials taken or utilised and, within one month from the date of such entry, compensation shall be tendered by the Irrigation Officer to the land--holder or owner of the property, as the case may be. (2) If such tender is not accepted within a week of such tender, the Irrigation Officer shall forthwith refer the matter to the Deputy Commissioner for the purpose of determining the amount of compensation. Karnataka Irrigation Act, 1965 Section 33

Title: Compensation for Damage Caused Consequent on the Exercise of Powers Conferred by This Act

State: Karnataka

.....navigation or of the means of floating timber or of watering cattle; or (c) stoppage or diminution of supply of water in consequence of the exercise of the power conferred by section 5, if no use has been made of such supply within the five years next before the date of the issue of the notification under section 5; or (d) failure or stoppage of any water in a channel or irrigation work where such failure or stoppage is due to,-- (i) any cause beyond the control of the authority incharge of the irrigation work; (ii) the execution of any repairs, alterations or additions to the channel or irrigation work; (iii) any measures considered necessary by the Irrigation Officer, regulating the proper flow of water in the channel or for maintaining the established course of irrigation; or (iv) circumstances mentioned under clauses (a) to (f) of section 29: Provided further that any person who suffers loss from any stoppage or diminution of water supply to his land due to any causes named in clause (d) of the preceding proviso shall be entitled to such remission of the water rate payable by him as may be authorised by the State Government.

Karnataka Krishna Basin Development Authority Act, 1992 Section 7

Title: Functions of the Authority

State: Karnataka

Year: 1992

The Authority shall have the following functions, namely:- (a) to undertake planning, investigation, estimation, execution, operation and maintenance of all irrigation project and works; (b) to promote and operate schemes for irrigation water supply and drainage; (c) to promote and control navigation in the river and its tributaries, canals and channels; (d) to formulate and execute schemes for the comprehensive development of the Krishna Basin; (e) to undertake resettlement and rehabilitation of the people affected by the construction of the projects and works in the Krishna Basin; (f) to construct proper drainage systems and take such other measures as are necessary to prevent water logging and salinity in the Krishna Basin; (g) to undertake measures for protection and improvement of the environment including the treatment of catchment areas of the projects and works; and (h) to undertake such other functions as may be necessary for the efficient utilisation of State's share with the water of River Krishna and its tributaries and as may be entrusted to it from time to time by the State Government.
