The Act has also ceased to have effect in relation to ancient and historical monuments and archaeological sites and remains which are declared by or under the Central Act 24 of 1958 to be of national importance: See Act 24 of 1958, S. 39 (2). See also the following State Acts on the same subject. Assam Act 25 of 1959; J. and K. Act 5 of 1977 (1920 A.D.); Kerala Act 26 of 1969; Uttar Pradesh Act 7 of 1957; West Bengal Act 31 of 1957 SECTION 01: SHORT TITLE AND EXTENT - (1) This Act may be called The Ancient Monuments Preservation Act, 1904. 2[(2) It extends to the whole of India3[except the State of Jammu and Kashmir].] SECTION 02: DEFINITIONS - In this Act, unless there is anything repugnant in the subject or context,- (1) "ancient monument" means any structure, erection or monument or any tumulus or place of interment, or any cave, rock-sculpture, inscription or monolith, which is of historical, archaeological or artistic interest, or any remains thereof, and includes- (a) the site of an ancient monument;.....

.....settle the form of and bring together in one Act, many detailed provisions which commonly appeared in special Acts authorising various kinds of public undertakings, such as the construction of railways. Thereafter the provisions of the Appropriate Clauses Act could be incorporated by reference in subsequent special Acts, thereby promoting uniformity and consistency and shortening and simplifying the special Acts. Some Clauses Acts are deemed incorporated in later special Acts unless varied on excluded thereby; others apply only in so far as expressly incorporated".-The Oxford Companion to Law, David M. COUNCILS ACT, 1904 COUNCILS ACT, 1904 26 of 1904 15th August, 1904 An Act to amend the Indian Councils Act, 1874. Be it enacted by the King's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: SECTION 01: REPEAL OF CERTAIN WORDS IN 37 & 38 VICT., C. 91 -In section 1 of the Indian Councils Act, 1874, the words "who shall be called the member of council for public works purposes," and in section 2of the same Act the words "for public works purposes," are hereby repealed. SECTION 02: SHORT TITLE -This Act may be cited as the Indian Councils Act, 1904. Central Bare Acts
