THE MADRAS HINDU RELIGIOUS AND CHARITABLE ENDOWMENTS ACT, 1951[1] THE MADRAS HINDU RELIGIOUS AND CHARITABLE ENDOWMENTS ACT, 1951 [1] MADRAS ACT No. XIX OF 1951 An Act to provide for the btter administration and governance of Hindu Religious and Charitable Institutions and Endowments in the State of Madras Whereas it is expedient to amend and consolidate the law relating to the administration and governance of Hindu religious and Charitable Institutions and Endowments in the State of Madras; It is hereby enacted as follows:- CHAPTER I PRELIMINARY 1. Short title, extent, application and commencement.-(1) This Act may be called the Madras Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Act, 1951. (2) It extends to the whole of the State of Madras and applies to all Hindu public religious institutions and endowments, including the Tirumalai Tirupati Devasthanams and the endowments thereof. Explanation.-In this sub-section, Hindu public religious institutions and endowments do not include Jain religious institutions and endowments.
