THE IMMORAL TRAFFIC (PREVENTION) ACT, 1956 [Act, No. 104 of 1956]1 [30th December, 1956] PREAMBLE An Act to provide in pursuance of the International Convention signed at New York on the 9th day of May, 1950, for 2 [the prevention of immoral traffic]. Be it enacted by Parliament in the Seventh Year of the Republic of India as follows:-- ________________________ 1. This Act has been extended to Dadra and Nagar Haveli by Reg. No. 6 of 1963, section 2 and Schedule I (w.e.f. 1-7-1965), to Goa, Daman and Diu by Reg. 11 of 1963, section 3 and Schedule and to the Union Territory of Pondicherry by Act 26 of 1968, section 3 and Schedule. 2. Substituted by Act 44 of 1986, section 2, for "the Suppression of Immoral Traffic in Women and Girls" (w.e.f. 26-1-1987).

Act.No.14 of 1982 An Act to provide for preventive detention of bootleggers, drug-offenders, (Inserted by Tamil Nadu Act 1 of 1988) [forest-offenders] goondas, immoral traffic offenders and slum-grabbers for preventing their dangerous activities pre-judicial to the maintenance of public order. Title: Repeal and Savings

(1)As from the date of the coming into force in any Slate of the provisions other thansection 1 of this Act, all State Acts relating to suppressionof immoral traffic in 1 [persons] orto the prevention of prostitution, in force in that Stateimmediately before such date shallstand repealed. (2)Notwithstanding the repeal by this Act of any State Act referred to insub-section (1),anything done or any action taken (includingany direction given, any register, rule ororder made, any restriction imposed) under the provisions of such State Actshall in so far as such thing or actionis not inconsistent with the provisions of this Act be deemed to havebeen done or taken under the provisions of this Act as if the said provisionswere in force when such thing was done or such action was taken and shall continuein force accordingly until superseded by anything done or any action taken underthis Act. Explanation.-Inthis section the expression "State Act" includes a "ProvincialAct". ______________________ 1.Substitutedby Act 44 of 1986, section 4, for "women and girls" (w.e.f. 26-1-1987).
