(7) "building of the warehouse class" means a building, the whole or a substantial part of which is used, or intended to be used, as a warehouse, factory, manufactory, brewery, or distillery, or for any similar purpose, which is neither a "domestic building" nor a "public building" as defined in this section, and includes a hut used or intended to be used for any of the purposes mentioned in this clause; (8) "bustee" means an area containing land not less than seven hundred square metres in area occupied by or for the purposes of any collection of huts or other structures used or intended to be used for human habitation. Explanation.-If any question arises as to whether any particular area is or is not a bustee, the Corporation shall decide the question and its decision shall be final; (9) "Kolkata" means the area described in Schedule I; 3 Clause (10) omitted by s. 2 of the Calcutta Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Act, 1996 (West Ben. Act VI of 1996) (with retrospective effect from 4.12.1995), which was earlier as under: '(10) "candidate" in section 75 and in Schedule III means a person who has been nominated as a candidate at any election of a Councillor or who claims.....

.....be furnished, the particulars to he contained in them and the time within which they are to be submitted; and (z) providing for the submission of statement of accidents, man-days lost, volume of cargo handled and particulars of dock workers. (3) The regulations made under this section may,-- (a) provide for the circumstances in which and the conditions subject to which, exemptions from any of the regulations made under this section may be given specifying the authorities who may grant such exemptions and regulating their procedure; and (b) make special provision to meet the special requirement of any particular port or ports. (4) In making a regulation under this section the appropriate Government may direct that a breach thereof shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months, or with fine which may extend to five thousand rupees, or with both, and, if the breach is continued after conviction, with a further fine which may extend to one hundred rupees for each day on which the breach is so continued.

.....regulations shall be regarded as confidential and shall not be disclosed to any person or authority unless such disclosure is for the purpose of any action or proceeding under this Act or the regulations or under any other law or unless the Chief Inspector or the Inspector considers such disclosure necessary to ensure the health, safety or welfare of any dock worker. (2) The Chief Inspector or the Inspector shall not disclose the source of any complaint bringing to his notice a defect or breach of any legal provisions and if any visit or inspection is to be made in connection with such a complaint, he shall give no intimation to the employer that the visit is made in consequence of receipt of such a complaint: Provided that the restrictions imposed under this sub-section shall not apply to any case where the complainant himself has expressed his willingness to have the source of the complaint disclosed. .....To meet the immediate requirements of the country soon after independence the Merchant Shipping Laws. (Extension to Acceding States and Amendment) Act, 1949 was enacted, by which the British Merchant Shipping Acts 1894 to 1938 were extended to the Acceding States (later known as Part B States) and Indian Consular Officers were empowered to perform functions in relation to Indian ships outside India and provision was made to enable Government to prescribe the proper national colours for ships registered in India, The Control of Shipping Act, 1947, was another short-term measure which continued the war-time control over Indian shipping and controlled the coastal trade by a system of licensing.
