Experience in the working of the Act has shown that in the modern set-up the provisions contained therein are not sufficient with a view to preserving objects of antiquity and art treasures in India. It is proposed to make a comprehensive law to regulate the export trade in antiquities and art treasures and to provide for the prevention of smuggling of, and fraudulent dealings in, antiquities.
