FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT, 2002 FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT, 2002 An act to provide for freedom to every citizen to secure access to information under the control of public authorities, consistent with public interest, in order to promote openness, transparency and accountability in administration and in relation to matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. BE it enacted by Parliament in the Fifty-third Year of the Republic of India as follows :- SECTION 01: SHORT TITLE, EXTENT AND COMMENCEMENT (1) This Act may be called the Freedom of Information Act, 2002-. (2) It extends to the whole of India except the State of Jammu and Kashmir. (3) It shall come into force on such date as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint.
