Penalty for false statements If any person,-- (a) when required by this Act or by any order under this Act to make any statement or furnish any information, makes any statement or furnishes any information which is false in any material particular and which he knows or has reasonable cause to believe to be false or does not believe to be true ; or (b) makes any such statement as aforesaid in any book, account, record, declaration, return or other document which he is required by any order made under this Act to maintain or furnish ; he shall be punishable with imprisonment which may extend to three months or with fine which may extend to two thousand rupees, or with both.] ____________________________ 1. Title: Punishment for False Statement

(1) If a person makes a false statement in any verification under this Chapter or any rule made thereunder, or delivers an account or statement, which is false, and which he either knows or believes to be false, or does not believe to be true, he shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years and with fine. (2) Notwithstanding anything contained in the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973(2 of 1974), an offence punishable under sub-section (1) shall be deemed to be non-cognizable within the meaning of that Code.

EMPLOYEES' STATE INSURANCE ACT, 1948 Section 84

Title: Punishment for false statement

Whoever, for the purpose of causing any increase in payment or benefit under this Act, or for the purpose of causing any payment or benefit to be made where no payment or benefit is authorized by or under this Act, or for the purpose of avoiding any payment to be made by himself under this Act or enabling any other person to avoid any such payment, knowingly makes or causes to be made any false statement or false representation, shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 1[six months], or with fine not exceeding 2[two thousand] rupees, or with both: 3[Provided that where an insured person is convicted under this section, he shall not be entitled for any cash benefit under this Act for such period as may be prescribed by the Central Government.] _________________ 1. Title: Penalty for Making False Statements for the Purpose of Deceiving or Influencing Any Authority or Officer

Any person who,-- (a) with a view to deceiving any authority or officer in the execution of the provisions of this Act, or (b) with a view to procuring or influencing the doing or omission of anything in relation to this Act or any matter thereunder, makes a false statement or representation knowing the same to be false, shall be punishable with imprisonment which may extend to one year, or with fine, or with both.

Karnataka Police Act, 1963 Section 118

Title: Penalty for Making False Statement, Etc., and for Misconduct of Police Officer

State: Karnataka

(1) (i) Any person who makes a false statement or uses a false document for the purposes of obtaining employment or release from employment as a Police Officer, or (ii) any Police Officer who,-- (a) contravenes the provisions of section 28; or (b) is guilty of cowardice; or (c) resigns his office or withdraws himself from the duties thereof in contravention of section 27; or (d) is guilty of any wilful breach, or neglect of any provision of law or of any rule or order which, as such Police Officer, it is his duty to observe or obey, or (e) is guilty of any violation of duty for which no punishment is expressly provided by any other law in force, shall, on conviction be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three months or with fine which may extend to one hundred rupees, or with both. (2) A Police Officer who, being absent on leave, fails, without reasonable cause, to report himself for duty on the expiration of such leave, shall, for the purposes of sub-clause (c) of clause (ii) of sub-section (1) be deemed to withdraw himself from the duties of his office within the meaning of section 27.

Title: Penalty for Making False Statement, Etc., and for Misconduct of Police Officers

(1) Any person who makes a false statement or uses a false document for the purpose of obtaining employment or release from employment as a Police officer, or (2) Any Police officer who (a) is guilty of cowardice, or (b) resgins his office or withdraws himself from duties thereof in contravention of section 29, or (c) is guilty of any wilful-breach or neglect of any provision of law or of any rule or order which as such Police officer, it is his duty to observe or obey, or (d) is guilty of any violation of duty for which no punishment is expressly provided by any other law in force, shall, on conviction, be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three months, or with fine which may extend to one hundred rupees, or with both. Consequence of failure to return to duty after leave (3) A Police Officer who being absent on leave fails, without reasonable cause, to report himself for duty on the expiration of such leave shall, for the purpose of clause (b) of sub-section (2), be deemed to withdraw himself from the duties of his office within the meaning of section 29.

Title: Giving False Evidence

Explanation 2.--A false statement as to the belief of the person attesting is within the meaning of this section, and a person may be guilty of giving false evidence by stating that he believes a thing which he does not believe, as well as by slating that he knows a thing which he does not know. Illustrations (a) A, in support of a just claim which B has against Z for one thousand rupees, falsely swears on a trial that he heard Z admit the justice of B's claim. A has given false evidence. (b) A, being bound by an oath to state the truth, states that he believes a certain signature to be the handwriting of Z, when he does not believe it to be the handwriting of Z. Here A states that which he knows it be false, and therefore gives false evidence. (c) A, knowing the general character of Z's handwriting, states that he believes a certain signature to be the handwriting of Z; A in good faith believing it to be so. Here A's statement is merely as to his belief, and is true as to his belief, and therefore, although the signature may not be the handwriting of Z, A has not given false evidence. (d) A, being bound by an oath to state.....
