BE it enacted by Parliament in the Eighth Year of the Republic of India as follows :- [a] For Statement of Objects and Reasons, see Gaz. of India, 1957, Extra., Pt. II, section 2, p. 392; and for Report of the Joint Committee, see p. 997.PRELIMINARY SECTION 01: SHORT TITLE, EXTENT AND COMMENCEMENT (1) This Act may be called the Mines and Minerals4["(Development and Regulation)"] Act, 1957. (2) It extends1to the whole of India. (3) It shall come into force on such date2as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint. SECTION 02: DECLARATION AS TO EXPEDIENCY OF UNION CONTROL It is hereby declared that it is expedient in the public interest that the Union should take under its control the regulation of mines and the development of minerals to the extent hereinafter provided. .....(a) "valuation date", in relation to an actuarial investigation, means the date to which the investigation relates. (b) "universal life contracts" means those contracts that are presented in an unbundled form. (2) The valuation method shall take into account all prospective contingencies under which any premiums (by the policy-holder) or benefits (to the policy-holder/beneflciary) may be payable under the policy, as determined by the policy conditions. The level of benefits shall take into account the reasonable expectations of policy-holders (with regard to bonuses, including terminal bonuses, if any) and any established practices of an insurer for payment of benefits. If the Committee is satisfied, on the report of any officer or other person made to it as a result of any inspection under section 18 or otherwise, that the rules made by it under section 17 arc not being complied with by any person or institution carrying on experiments on animals, the Committee may, after giving an opportunity to the person or institution of being heard in the matter, by order, prohibit the person or institution from carrying on any such experiments either for a specified period or indefinitely, or may allow the person or institution to carry on such experiments subject to such special conditions as the Committee may think fit to impose.

Title: Exhibition of Certain Timings and Tables of Fares at Stations

(1) Every railway administration shall cause to be pasted in a conspicuous and accessible place at every station in Hindi and English and also in the regional language commonly in use in the area where the station is situated,-- (i) a table of times of arrival and departure of trains which carry passengers and stop at that station, and (ii) list of fares from such station to such other stations as it may consider necessary. (2) At every station where tickets are issued to passengers, a copy of the time table in force shall be kept in the office of the station master.

Title: Adoption and Application of Table a in the Case of Companies Limited by Shares

(1) The articles of association of a company limited by shares may adopt all or any of the regulations contained in Table A in Schedule I. (2) In the case of any such company which is registered after the commencement of this Act, if articles are not registered, or if articles are registered, insofar as the articles do not exclude or modify the regulations contained in Table A aforesaid, those regulations shall, so far as applicable, be the regulations of the company in the same manner and to the same extent as if they were contained in duly registered articles.
