In this Act, unless there is anything repugnant in the subject or context:-- 1[***] (2) "article" means2[***] any article of manufacture and any substance, artificial or natural or partly artificial and partly natural; 3[(3) "Controller" means the Controller General of Patents. .....in the Fifty-first Year of the Republic of India as follows:- CHAPTER 1. PRELIMINARY 1. Short title, extent and commencement (1) This Act may be called the Designs Act, 2000. (2) It extends to the whole of India. (3) It shall come into force on such date as the Central Government may, by notification, in the Official Gazette, appoint; and different dates may be appointed for different provisions of this Act, and any reference in any such provision to the commencement of this Act shall be construed as a reference to the coming into force of that provision. 2. DESIGNS ACT, 1911 DESIGNS ACT, 1911 2 of 1911 An Act to amend the law relating to the protection of Designs. Whereas it is expedient to amend the law relating to the protection of designs; it is hereby enacted as follows :- SECTION 01: SHORT TITLE, EXTENT AND COMMENCEMENT. (1) This Act may be called the Designs Act, 1911. (2) It extends to the whole of India. (3) It shall come into force on the first day of January, 1912. SECTION 02: DEFINITIONS.
