SECTION 07: ACT TO OVERRIDE OTHER LAWS The provisions of this Act shall have effect notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in any other law for the time being in force. SECTION 08: REMOVAL OF DIFFICULTIES If any difficulty arises in giving effect to the provisions of this Act, the State Government may, as occasion requires, by order, do anything not inconsistent with the objects and purposes of this Act, which appears to it to be necessary or expedient for the purpose of removing the difficulty Provided that no such order shall be made after the expiry of a period of two years from the date of commencement of this Act. SECTION 09: REPEAL OF MAH. I OF 1995 AND SAVING (1) The Maharashtra Prevention of Defacement of Property Ordinance, 1995 (Mah. Ord I of 1995) is hereby repealed. (2) Notwithstanding such repeal, anything done or any action taken under the said Ordinance shall be deemed to have been done or taken, as the case may be, under the corresponding provisions of this Act. THE PUNJAB PREVENTION OF DEFACEMENT OF PROPERTY ACT, 1997 THE PUNJAB PREVENTION OF DEFACEMENT OF PROPERTY ACT, 1997 [Act No. 7 of 1998] [25th January, 1998] PREAMBLE An Act to provide for the prevention of defacement of property and for matters con nected therewith or incidental thereto. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Punjab in the Forty-eighth year of the Re-public of India, as follows :- Section 1 - Short title, extent and commencement (1) This Act may be called the Punjab Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 1997. (2) It extends to the whole of the State of Punjab. (3) It shall come into force on such date as the State Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette appoint. THE TRIPURA PREVENTION OF DEFACEMENT OF PROPERTY ACT, 1976 THE TRIPURA PREVENTION OF DEFACEMENT OF PROPERTY ACT, 1976 An Act to provide for the prevention of defacement of property. Where it is expendient in the public interest to provide for the prevention of defacement of property and matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. It is hereby enacted in the Twenty-seventh Year of the Republic of India, by the Legislature of Tripura, as follows :- Short title, extent and application. 1. (1) This Act may be called the Tripura Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 1976. (2) It extends to the whole of Tripura. (3) It shall apply in the first instance to Municipal limits of Agartala town, but the State Government may, from time to time by notification in the Official Gazette, apply it to such other local area or areas as may be specified in the notification. It is enacted in the thirty-sixth year of the Republic of India by the Legislature of Nagaland as follows : 1. Short Title, extent and application (1) This Act may be called the Nagaland Prevention of Defacement of Property Act 1985. (2) It extends to the whole of Nagaland. Title: Power to Certain Persons to Cut, Diminished or Defaced Coins

(1) Where any coin which has been minted and issued by or under the authority of the Government is tendered to any person authorised by it to act under this section, and such person has reason to believe that the coin-- (a) has been diminished in weight so as to be more than such per cent, below standard weight as provided in section 5; or (b) has been defaced, he shall, by himself or through another person, cut or break the coin. (2) A person cutting or breaking coin under the provisions of clause (a) of sub-section (1) shall receive and pay for the coin at its face value. (3) A person cutting or breaking coin under the provisions of clause (b) of sub-section (1) shall observe the following procedure, namely:-- (a) if such person has reason to believe, that the coin has been fraudulently defaced, he shall return the pieces to the person tendering the coin, who shall bear the loss caused by such cutting or breaking; (b) if such person has reason to believe, that the coin has not been fraudulently defaced, he shall receive and pay for the coin at its face value.

Title: Penalty for Counterfeiting or Defacing Marks on Trees and Timber and for Altering Boundary Marks

Whoever, with intent to cause damage or injury to the public or (o any person, or to cause wrongful gain as defined in the Indian Penal Code (a) knowingly counterfeits upon any timber or standing tree a mark used by Forest-officers to indicate that such timber or tree is the property of the Government or of some person, or that it may lawfully be cut or removed by some person; or (b) alters, defaces or obliterates any such mark placed on a tree or on timber by or under the authority of a Forest-officer; or (c) alters, moves, destroys or defaces any boundary-mark of any forest or wasteland to which the provisions of this Act are applied, shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.

Title: Altering or Defacing Pass or Ticket

If any passenger wilfully alters or defaces his pass or ticket so as to render the date, number or any material portion thereof illegible, he shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three months, or with fine which may extend to five hundred rupees, or with both.
