THE SIKKIM POLICE ACT, 2008 THE SIKKIM POLICE ACT , 2008 (Act No . 15 of 2008) AN ACT To make provision for the law relating to the establishment and management of the Police organization and its functions. Be it enacted by the Legislature of Sikkim in the Fifty-ninth Year of the Republic of India as follows: CHAPTER I Preliminary: Definitions and Interpretations Short title, extent and commencement 1. (1) This Act may be called the Sikkim Police Act, 2008. (2) It extends to the whole of Sikkim. (3) It shall come into force on such date as the State Government may by notification in the Official Gazette appoint. Definitions 2. BOMBAY MOTOR VEHICLES TAX ACT, 1958 BOMBAY MOTOR VEHICLES TAX ACT, 1958 65 of 1958 29th August, 1958 An Act to consolidate and amend the law relating to the taxation of motor vehicles in the State of Bombay and to provide for certain other matters. WHEREAS it is expedient to consolidate and amend the law relating to the taxation of motor vehicles in the State of Bombay, and to provide for certain other matters; It is hereby enacted in the Ninth Year of the Republic of India as follows: - SECTION 01: SHORT TITLE, EXTENT AND COMMENCEMENT (1) This Act may be called the Bombay Motor Vehicles Tax Act, 1958. (2) It extends to the whole of the '[State of Maharashtra]. (3) It shall be deemed to have come into force on the 1st day of April 1958. SECTION 02: DEFINITIONS In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires- (A1)2"Air-conditioned motor vehicle" means a public service vehicle constructed or adapted for use for the carriage of passengers and fitted with air-conditioning unit; (1) "certificate of taxation" means a certificate, issued under section 5 indicating therein the rate at which the tax is leviable, and the periods for which the tax has been paid......

(3) All notices issued by any local authority for initiating action against encroachment or unauthorised development referred to in sub-section (1), shall be deemed to have been suspended and no punitive action shall be taken till the 31st day of December, 2008. (4) Notwithstanding any other provision contained in this Act, the Central Government may, at any time before the 31st day of December, 2008, withdraw the exemption by notification in respect of encroachment or unauthorised development mentioned in sub-section (2) or sub-section (3), as the case may be.
