Title: Prohibition of Slaughter of Cow or Calf of She--buffalo

Notwithstanding any law, custom, or usage to the contrary, no person shall slaughter or cause to be slaughtered, or offer or cause to be offered for slaughter or otherwise intentionally kill or offer or cause to be offered for killing any cow or calf of she--buffalo.

.....24 Indemnity No suit, prosecution or other proceedings shall lie against a servant of the State Government for any act done in good faith under this Act or the rules made thereunder. Section 25 Power to make rules (1) The State Government may make rules for carrying out the purposes of this Act. (2) In particular and without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing power, such rules may provide for all or any of the following matters, namely : (a) anything required to be prescribed under this Act ; (b) the manner in which a written order under section 7, sub-section (1) of section 9 and section 16 shall be served on the person concerned ; (c) the manner in which notices under clause (a) of sub-section (2) of section 14 shall be published ; (d) the manner in which animals should be branded or tattooed under section 8, section 11, sub-section (2) of section 13, clause (a) of sub-section (2) of section 14 and clause (a) of sub-section (3) of section 14 ; and (e) the manner in which appeals shall be filed before the Director or the Collector, as the case may be, under section 18 and section 19 and the fees to be paid for such appeals. SECTION 13: PROTECTION OF PERSONS ACTING IN GOOD FAITH TINDER ACT OR RULES No suit prosecution or other legal proceedings shall be instituted against any person for anything which is in good faith done or intended to be done under this Act or the rules made thereunder. In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,- (i) "animal" means bull, bullock, buffalo--male or female, or calf of she--buffalo whether male or female; (ii) "competent authority" means a person or a body of persons appointed to perform the functions of a competent authority under this Act; (iii) "cow" includes calf of a cow, whether male or female; (iv) "notification" means a notification published in the official Gazette; and (v) "prescribed" means prescribed by rules made under this Act.
