ACT NO. 9 OF 1998 THE INDRAPRASTHA VISHWAVIDYALAYA ACT, 1998 AN ACT To establish and incorporate an affiliating and teaching University at Delhi to facilitate and promote studies, research and extension work in emerging areas of higher education with focus on professional education, for example engineering, technology, management studies, medicine, pharmacy, nursing, education, law, etc., and also to achieve excellence in these and connected fields and other matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. BE it enacted by the Legislative Assembly of the National Capital Territory of Delhi in the forty-ninth year of the Republic of India as follows:- (As amended by the Indraprastha Vishwavidyalaya (Second Amendment) Act, 1999.) (1) This Act may be called the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University Act, 1998. (2) It shall come into force on such date as the Government may, by notification in the official Gazettee, appoint. 2. (4) If such Council fails, within a reasonable time to take action to the satisfaction of the Government, the Government after considering the representation or explanation furnished, issue directions which should be complied by the Council. Section 10 - Teaching at Institute All teaching at the Institute shall be conducted by or in the name of the Institute in accordance with the Statutes and the Ordinances made in this behalf. Section 11 - Visitor (1) The President of India shall be the Visitor of the Institute. (2) The Visitor may appoint one or more persons to review the work and progress of the Institute and to hold inquiries into the affairs thereof and to report thereon in such manner as the Visitor may direct. (1) The Institute shall maintain a Fund to which shall be credited-- (a) all moneys provided by the Central Government; (b) all fees and other charges; (c) all moneys received by the Institute by way of grants, gifts, donations, benefactions, bequests or transfers; and (d) all moneys received by the Institute in any other manner or from any other source. (2) All moneys credited to the Fund shall be deposited in such banks or invested in such manner as the Institute may, with the approval of the Central Government, decide. (3) The Fund shall be applied towards meeting the expenses of the Institute including expenses incurred in the exercise of its powers and discharge of its duties under this Act.

Nagar (Mohali), District Ropar, Punjab are such as to make the institution one of national importance, it is hereby delcared that the institution known as the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research is an institution of national importance. SECTION 03: DEFINITIONS -In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,- (a) "appointed day" means the date of establishment of the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research under sub-section (1) ofSection 4-; (b) "Board" means the Board of Governors of the Institute constituted under sub- section (3) of Section 4-; (c) "Chairperson" means the Chairperson of the Institute.....
