(1) This Act may be called the1[Karnataka] Khadi and Village Industries Act, 1956.
(2) It extends to the whole of the1[State of Karnataka].
(3) It shall come into force in such areas from such2[dates] as the State Government may by notification in the1[Karnataka Gazette] specify.
(4) On the coming into force of this Act in the1[Belgaum Area], the Bombay Village Industries Act, 1954 (Bombay Act No. XLI of 1954), shall stand repealed and on the coming into force of this Act in the1[Gulbarga Area], the Hyderabad Khadi and Village Industries Act, 1955 (Hyderabad Act No. X of 1955), shall stand repealed.

Section 2 - Definitions
In this Act, unless there is anything repugnant in the subject or context.--
(i) "Board" means the1[Karnataka State Khadi and Village Industries Board] constituted under section 4;
(ii) "khadi" means any cloth woven on handlooms in India from cotton, silk or woollen yarn handspun in India, or from a mixture of any two or all of such yarns;
(iii) "prescribed" means prescribed by rules made under this Act;
(iv) "Regulations" means regulations made under this Act;
(v) "village industry" means the Khadi Industry and any industry specified in the Schedule to this Act.
