| THE PUNJAB URBAN RENT RESTRICTION (AMENDMENT) ACT, 1957 [Act No. 21 of 1957] [15th July, 1957.] PREAMBLE An Act to amend the East Punjab Urban Rent Restriction Act, 1949 (Act No. III of 1949). Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Punjab in the Eighth Year of the Republic of India as follows :- Section 1 - Short title and extent (1) This Act may be called the Punjab Urban Rent Restriction (Amendment) Act, 1957. (2) It extends to the territories which, immediately before the 1st November, 1956, were comprised in the State of Punjab. Section 2 - Amendment of Section 13 of the East Punjab Act No. III of 1949 After clause (c) of sub-paragraph (i) of paragraph (a) of sub-section (3) of Section 13 of the East Punjab Urban Rent Restriction Act, 1949, the following shall be added, namely :- "(d) it was let to the tenant for use as a residence by reason of his being in the service or employment of the landlord, and the tenant has ceased, whether before or after the commencement of this Act, to be in such service or employment: Provided that where the tenant is a workman who has been discharged or dismissed by the landlord from his service or employment in contravention of the provisions of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947, he shall not be liable to be evicted until the competent authority under that Act confirms the order of discharge or dismissal made against him by the landlord." |
