The Societies Registration (Madras Amendment) Act, 1954 Complete Act - Bare Act

An Act to amend the Societies Registration Act, 1860, in its application to the State of Madras.

Whereas it is expedient to amend the Societies Registration Act, 1860 (Central Act XXI of 1860), in its application to the State of Madras; Be it enacted in the Fifth Year of Our Republic as follows:-

(1) This Act may be called The Societies Registration (Madras Amendment), Act, 1954

(2) It extends to the whole of the State of Madras.

In the Societies Registration Act, 1860 (Central Act XXI of 1860)-

(i) in section 1, for the words "the Registrar of Joint-stock Companies" the words and brackets "the Inspector-General of Registration (hereafter in this Act referred to as the Inspector-General)" shall be substituted;

(ii) to the same section, the following Explanation shall be added, namely:-

Explanation.--"Inspector General of Registration" means the Inspector-General of Registration appointed by the State Government under section 3 of the Indian Registration Act, 1908 (Central Act XVI of 1908). or any of the district authorities subordinate to the Inspector-General of Registration not below the rank of the District Registrar to whom powers may be delegated in respect of this Act.":

(iii) in section 3 and 19, for the words "the Registrar" wherever they occur, the words "the Inspector-General" shall be substituted:

(iv) in sections 4 and 18 for the words "the Registrar of Joint-stock Companies", the words "the Inspector-General" shall be substituted;

Any document filed with or certificate issued by, the Registrar of Joint stock Companies under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 (Central Act XXI of 1860), before the commencement of this Act, shall be deemed to have been filed with, or issued by, the Inspector-General of Registration under the said Act as amended by this Act.
