THE GURUVAYOOR DEVASWOM (AMENDMENT) ACT, 2001 [1]
An Act further to amend the Guruvayoor Devaswom Act, 1978.
Preamble.--
WHEREAS, it is expedient to amend the Guruvayoor Devaswom Act, 1978, for the purposes hereinafter appearing;
BE it enacted in the Fifty-second Year of the Republic of India as follows:--
1. Short title and commencement.--(1) This Act may be called the Guruvayoor Devaswom (Amendment) Act, 2001.
(2) It shall come into force at once.
2. Amendment of section 5.-- In section 5 of the Guruvayoor Devaswom Act, 1978 (14 of 1978) (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act), in sub-section (1), for the words, "four years", the words "two years" shall be substituted.
3. Insertion of new section 6A.-- After section 6 of the principal Act, the following section shall be inserted, namely:--
"6A. Commissioner to be in charge of the Committee.-- Where by reason of the expiry of the term of office of the members nominated under clause (d) or clause (e) of sub-section (1) of section 4 or by resignation, or otherwise, any vacancy occurs in the Committee and the number of the remaining members cannot constitute the quorum for a meeting of the Committee as specified in sub-section (3) of section 7, then, notwithstanding anything contained in this Act, the Commissioner shall hold charge and exercise the powers and perform the functions of the Committee, until the vacancy is filled up as provided in this Act to constitute the quorum.".
4. Amendment of section 7.-- In section 7 of the principal Act, in sub-section (3), for the words "three members" the words, "four members" shall be substituted.
