PREAMBLE
An Act
further to amend the Indian Stamp Act, 1899, in its application to Assam.
Whereas it is expedient further to amend the Indian Stamp Act, 1899 (Central Act II of 1899), hereinafter called the principal Act, in its application to the State of Assam, in the manner hereinafter appearing;
It is hereby enacted in the Eighteenth Year of the Republic of India as follows--

Section 1 - Short title, extent and Commencement
(1) This Act may be called the Indian Stamp (Assam Amendment) Act, 1967.
(2) It extends to the whole of the State of Assam.
(3) It shall come into force at once (It shall come into force at once i.e. 7th August, 1967).

Section 2 - Amendment of Schedule I of Act II of 1899
In Schedule I to the principal Act, in Article 23, under the heading "Description of instrument"--
(1) the word "and" occuring at the beginning of the last item
shall be deleted and for the punctuation "(.)" occuring after the words and figures "Rs. 1,000" the punctuation "(;)" shall be substituted;
(2) after the item as so amended under sub-section (1), the following items shall be inserted, namely--
"Where it exceeds Rs. 50,000 but does not exceed Rs. 90,000;
Thirty rupees for every one thousand rupees.
Where it exceeds Rs. 90,000 but does not exceed Rs. 1,50,000;
Fourty rupees for every one thousand rupees.
and where it exceeds Rs. 1,50,000
Fifty rupees for every one thousand rupees :
Provided that where the "instrument" or the conveyance is in respect of an Industrial Loan, certified as such by the Director of Industries, Assam, the stamp duty shall be half of the above rate.
