THE PLANTATIONS LABOUR (KERALA AMENDMENT) ACT, 1998 [1]

(ACT 1 OF 1999)

An Act further to amend the Plantations Labour Act, 1951, in its application to the State of Kerala

Preamble
."WHEREAS it is expedient further to amend the Plantations Labour Act, 1951, in its application to the State of Kerala, for the purpose hereinafter appearing;

BE it enacted in the Forty-ninth Year of the Republic of India as follows:-

1.Short title, extent and commencement."(1) This Act may be called the Plantations Labour (Kerala Amendment) Act, 1998.
(2) It extends to the whole of the State of Kerala.

(3)It shall come into force at once.
2.Amendment of section 10."In section 10 of the Plantations Labour Act, 1951 (Central Act 69 of 1951), after sub section (1), the following Explanation shall be inserted, namely:--

"Explanation."For the purpose of this section, "family", when used in relation to a worker, means"

(i)his or her spouse;
(ii)mentally retarded children, minor legitimate or adopted son, unmarried legitimate or adopted daughter of the worker dependent upon him or her, and includes the parents of the worker dependent upon him or her.".
